About this site
About this site
Pest Control Helper is a free, plain-language guide for Texas homeowners and renters with a pest problem. It helps you understand what you're dealing with, decide whether to handle it yourself, and check out a company before you hire one.
Who runs this site #
Pest Control Helper is an independent consumer guide. No pest control company or product maker owns it, pays for it, or has a say in what the guides say. It is not a pest control company, and it doesn't sell products or services (see below).
What this site is not #
In Texas, inspecting, identifying pests, and giving estimates or bids for pay are part of the licensed business of pest control. That work belongs to companies licensed by the Texas Department of Agriculture.
How the guides are written #
- Facts come from public, non-commercial sources. These include the Texas Department of Agriculture, Texas laws and rules, the EPA, the CDC, the Texas Department of State Health Services, the Texas Poison Center Network, and the National Pesticide Information Center. They also include university Extension services (Texas A&M AgriLife, Mississippi State, and Virginia Tech) and TexasLawHelp.org. Guides name their sources in the text. We don't use pest control company websites as sources.
- Plain language. Short sentences and practical steps.
- Texas first. Fire ants, scorpions, termites, mosquito season, and Texas license rules.
- The label comes first. Nothing on this site replaces the directions on a product label.
- No safety promises. Every pesticide carries some risk. This site doesn't call any product harmless. When a guide mentions a kind of product, like a snap trap or an ant bait, that's general information, not an endorsement.
The guides are general information, not medical, legal, or professional advice. In an emergency, call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222 or 911.
How this site makes money #
Right now, it doesn't. There are no ads, no paid listings, no affiliate links, and no referral fees. If that ever changes, the How we make money page will say so first.
